It would've been more fitting if I uploaded this video yesterday on New Year's Eve rather than New Year's Day but I was too busy watching live streams of other countries counting down to New Year's. But let's reflect on this past year in the food world in the form of this meatloaf recipe, shall we? This meatloaf has most of the food trends of the past year except for Cinnamon Toast Crunch(representing those shakes at Burger King), ube, watermelon(remember the ice cream stuffed into those watermelon slices?) and sushi representing sushi donuts but I forgot to add those in. Also, I used turmeric instead of activated charcoal, which was really big this past year with black-colored foods, but I didn't want to poop out green stuff(because that's what activated charcoal does). But other than those omissions, I think this meatloaf represents the food trends of 2017 pretty well, though I did wish I bought more jackfruit and made this meatloaf a vegetarian one, but I didn't have enough, so I had to think of some sort of protein that was kind of big this year and chicken was, what with the resurrection of the chicken fries at Burger King. This meatloaf looked a lot like a fruitcake, especially with the avocados in it. It was cheesy and chocolatey but not too spicy either. The pickles added a depth to the taste to the meatloaf and I didn't taste any rose wine. Apparently the part of the video with me tasting the meatloaf got corrupted(it does that sometimes when I transferred the footage from my phone to my laptop), so you might have to put the volume louder during that part. Sorry! My dad didn't taste this meatloaf due to the wine and chocolate in it. Plus it would've been too spicy for his liking. Put all the ingredients except for the cheese and breadcrumbs into a large bowl. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. If the mixture is still liquidy, add extra breadcrumbs to absorb the excess liquid. 2. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. Put half of the meatloaf mixture into the pan. 3. Top the mixture in the pan with 2 crumbled slices of the cheese and top that cheese with the rest of the meatloaf mixture. 4. Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 60-65 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Last April, Starbucks had a limited edition Frappuccino called the Unicorn Frappuccino. We all know unicorns are mythical creatures but there is one real-life creature that's the closest thing you can get to a real-life unicorn: the eland, an antelope with two horns that look like a unicorn's horn(straight and at an angle) found in Africa. So I made a unicorn meatloaf using eland. Don't be fooled by this item on Amazon called "Unicorn Meat"- it's just a gag item. You can find eland testicles, liver, kidneys, stew meat, sausage, and steaks online but not ground eland. However, there is a way of turning meat into something that can be crumbled up to make a meatloaf- by slow cooking it for 8-10 hours on low. This is the first time I ever used a slow cooker, though I remember my mom having one of those when I was a kid. This meatloaf has all the components of a Unicorn Frappuccino and the closest thing to a real-life unicorn, the eland! So what does eland taste like? It tastes like slightly dry, slightly sweet beef, pretty much. The components of a Unicorn Frappuccino are sweet and sour(not to be confused with sweet and sour sauce). This meatloaf tasted sour, sweet, and savory- a very interesting combination indeed. My dad doesn't trust meat that comes from outside the US, so he didn't try this meatloaf. Plus he was repulsed by the idea of eating a unicorn, even if it's just an African antelope with two horns. In a large bowl, coat the stew meat with the flour. 2. Pour olive oil into a frying pan and spread it throughout the pan. Heat the oil up. 3. Once the oil is heated up, put the floured meat into the pan and sear the meat by browning the outside of it(doesn't have to be fully cooked at this point). It helps to use a spatula to move the stew meat throughout the pan to ensure all of it is seared. 4. Put the seared meat and the rest of the ingredients needed to slow-cook the meat into a crockpot. Mix all the ingredients up. 5. Put the lid on the crockpot, set it on low, and slow cook everything for 8-10 hours. 6. After 8-10 hours, turn the crockpot off, retrieve the meat with a slotted spoon, and place the meat onto a large plate. Discard the rest of the crockpot ingredients. To make the syrup: 1. In a small bowl, mix the blue raspberry lemonade powder and hot water until the powder has dissolved into the water. In a second small bowl, place the candy melts and melt the chocolate in the microwave for 40 seconds, or until fully melted. 2. Pour the blue raspberry lemonade mixture into the melted and chocolate and mix thoroughly until you get a light blue mixture. To make the meatloaf: 1. Put the first 8 meatloaf ingredients into a large bowl. 2. Crumble the slow-cooked meat into a pulled pork consistency using 2 forks. Place the crumbled meat into the large bowl. 3. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. 4. Spray a lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 5. Bake the meatloaves in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 20-30 minutes. 6. Take the pan out of the oven. Sprinkle pink pearl dust on one meatloaf and blue pearl dust on the other. Over the past year, whenever I was bored, I searched through the vast majority of the food entries on Wikipedia and came up with either meatloaf recipes or some other type of recipe based on that food item. I stumbled upon this food article that talked about the 12-Dish Christmas Eve Supper, which is the inspiration for this recipe. Now granted, some of the ingredients are merely parts of some of the dishes served like poppy seeds, which are usually turned into poppy seed milk. Personally, I don't like poppy seeds, so the best substitute is caraway seeds. Wheat berry cereal itself isn't traditionally served(they're in this traditional dessert known as kutia) but I couldn't find wheat berries other than in cereal form on Amazon. Bread of some sort is also served so the breadcrumbs represent the bread served. Other ingredients in this meatloaf I had to improvise, like the fish sticks. Fish sticks itself aren't traditionally served but the fish inside them is. I couldn't find any carp where I was, nor similar fish like pike, but I figured that it's technically possible to make carp fish sticks, hence the use of the fish sticks. Plus I had to take into account that eggs, milk, or meat aren't allowed in this type of supper because of the Nativity Fast, hence the use of applesauce in lieu of eggs and only using the cabbage in the cabbage rolls and not the beef inside. Of course, I forgot to take into account that cream sauce is technically dairy but other than that oversight, this meatloaf is like these 12 dishes in one meatloaf, kind of. You're going to love this meatloaf if you love herring, cabbage, and onions because that's pretty much what were the predominant flavors in this meatloaf, which looked like chopped liver or even cat food(!). My dad liked the meatloaf and this was his first time trying herring. That's pretty much all he had to say about that. Put the onion powder, applesauce, and mushrooms into a large bowl. Break apart the pierogies, cabbage from the cabbage rolls, and fish sticks into pieces and put the pieces into the bowl. 2. Add the sauerkraut, fig compote, borscht, poppy or caraway seeds, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Crumble up the gingerbread men and put that into the bowl as well. 3. Put the wheat berry cereal into a Ziploc bag or food processor and crush up the cereal before putting it into the bowl, along with the herring. 4. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf. You're going to need to add the breadcrumbs to the meatloaf mixture to get a loaf shape so add that to the mixture too. Mix again until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. 5. Spray a lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 6. Bake the meatloaves in a 375 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15-20 minutes. I always have to jump on the chance to make a meatloaf based off of pop culture, like last week's season 2 release of "Stranger Things" on Netflix. I'm not a fan of the show but when I read a listicle on either the Food Network or Tastemade(all I know was I read it on Snapchat), I wrote down in my phone all of the foods the character Eleven(yes, that's her name) likes and one of them is meatloaf! Eleven mostly likes junk food, so that's what most of the ingredients in this meatloaf are. The only ingredients that weren't on the listicle were salt, black pepper, and onion powder. Also, not including those 3 ingredients, there are 11 ingredients in this meatloaf! Sounds like an awesome video, right? Well I fucked up by accidentally deleting the video of me putting the meatloaf in the loaf pan. You see, I'm obsessed with keeping as much free space on my phone as possible, so I thought the video wasn't important and I deleted it. But not to worry, i improvised with pictures and emojis for that part of the recipe! On video, you might think I loved the meatloaf and I did, but I really should've mixed the meatloaf a bit longer, as I got big chunks of ground beef in some bites and the sweet stuff(mainly bananas, peanuts, raisins, and waffles) in others. I did learn from this recipe that frozen waffles disintegrate in the oven for being in there over an hour. It was interesting that the raisins from the trail mix expanded in size, but that's due to all the moisture surrounding it in the meatloaf. My dad didn't partake in this meatloaf, as it has chocolate in it. You will need: For the cooking equipment: A large bowl A loaf pan Nonstick cooking spray For the meatloaf: 2/3 tbsp. onion powder 2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce 1.75 oz. rainbow sprinkles(representing ice cream because we all know what happens to ice cream in the oven- spoiler alert, it melts!) 2.5 oz. trail mix 2 Nutty Buddy bars 1 banana 1/4 cup Coca-Cola 1/4 cup chocolate pudding 1/2 cup crushed potato chips 1/2 cup crushed mini Nilla wafers Pinch of salt Pinch of black pepper 1 lb. 93% ground beef 2 frozen Eggo waffles 1. Put the first 4 ingredients into the large bowl. Crumble up the Nutty Buddy bars and put them in the bowl as well. 2. Either chop up or crumble up a banana and put it in the large bowl, along with the next 8 ingredients. 3. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. 4. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. Put half the meatloaf mixture into the loaf pan. Top that meatloaf mixture with the waffles and cover the waffles with the rest of the meatloaf mixture. 5. Bake the meatloaves in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 60-65 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Shoutout to PurpleEchoingForest on Instagram for suggesting the poutine meatloaf idea! Originally, I was going to have 2 separate meatloaves- one with all the components of an all-dressed potato chip, including the chips themselves, bbq sauce, vinegar, onion, and carrot(in place of bell peppers, which I absolutely hate); and the other being a poutine meatloaf. Then I realized I wouldn't have anything authentic to hold up the poutine meatloaf since fries make for terrible meatloaf binders, and the thing all-dressed chips and poutine have in common is that their both Canadian. The all-dressed chips can hold the poutine meatloaf together! Being the somewhat ignorant American that I am, I thought today, October 1, was either Canada Day or Thanksgiving in Canada. Turns out I'm wrong on both parts- Canada Day is July 1 and this year, Canada's Thanksgiving is not until the 9th(the 2nd Monday in October). I've never had poutine before, let alone travel to Canada(which I'd love to do, only to see if I could stand living there permanently seeing as Trump is president; I already said too much about my political views). The combination of beef gravy, fries, and cheese curds is addicting. Speaking of cheese curds, I had to order them on Amazon, as I can't find cheese curds in Long Island supermarkets(but I probably could if I were upstate, like in Albany). The cheese curds tasted like cheese that's a little squeaky, as they're wont to be. Plus they melt so beautifully that when you pull on them melted, they're very stretchy. If you look at a picture of this meatloaf, it looks like the fish in fish and chips or fried chicken strips, except the white stuff is tofu and not fish or chicken. This meatloaf is definitely heavy on the carbs, seeing as there's fries AND potato chips in it. Surprisingly, my dad thought the meatloaf was dry. I told him he could top it with some gravy and then he said he doesn't like cold gravy. :( HELPFUL LINKS: All-Dressed Potato Chips: www.amazon.com/Ruffles-All-dressed-Chips/dp/B004A6OMT0/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1506884872&sr=8-2& Cheese Curds: www.amazon.com/Cheddar-Cheese-Curds-1-LB/dp/B00HENSOAO/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1506884895&sr=8-1-spons& You will need: For the cooking equipment: A large bowl Nonstick cooking spray A lasagna pan For the meatloaf: 2/3 tbsp. onion powder 2 beaten and whisked eggs 10 cooked, straight fries(like the ones at McDonald's) 1/2 cup cheese curds(see HELPFUL LINKS) 1/2 cup beef gravy Pinch of salt Pinch of black pepper 1-1 1/2 cup's worth of crushed All-Dressed Potato Chips(see HELPFUL LINKS) 1 pound chopped, drained, crumbled up, firm tofu More cooked fries to top the meatloaves with(optional) Beef gravy for the top of the meatloaf(optional) 1. Put the first 9 ingredients into a large bowl. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. 2. Spray a lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 3.Top the meatloaves with more cooked fries(optional). 4. Bake the meatloaves in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 40-45 minutes. Serve with beef gravy on top(optional). Celebrate any eclipse viewing with this meatloaf, which has all the components of any eclipse in the sky! The Great American Eclipse was 5 days ago but I filmed this video that day and today I'm uploading the video. I thought of all the components of a solar eclipse and was able to think of a food item related to each one:
The meatloaf tasted like an Oreo pancake with marshmallows(from the moon pies) and the first taste in my mouth was the sunflower seed butter, which tastes like a mild version of peanut butter. The chocolate layer of the moon pies melted into the meatloaf. What I didn't taste was the beer and cayenne pepper. You might be wondering why I didn't use Eclipse gum in this meatloaf, even though it would've been totally obvious given the theme of the meatloaf- I don't like bubblegum, or any type of gum for that matter because I don't understand why you'd put something in your mouth you can't swallow besides floss, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. I didn't live in the path of totality but I saw a partial 70% eclipse. My bosses at my day job had the foresight to buy the employees eclipse glasses and we timed our lunch break to the peak of the eclipse, which looked like the moon was on fire, which was pretty cool. My dad didn't try this meatloaf because it had chocolate and beer in it. You will need: For the cooking equipment: A large bowl Nonstick cooking spray A lasagna pan For the meatloaf: 2/3 tbsp. onion powder 2 beaten and whisked eggs 2-3 moon pies 1/4 cup sunflower seed butter 1/4 cup Corona beer Pinch of cayenne pepper Pinch of black pepper Pinch of salt 9 Oreo cookies without cream 1/2 cup crushed Total cereal(use a Ziploc bag to crush them up) 1 pound chopped, drained, crumbled up, firm tofu 1. Put the onion powder and eggs into a large bowl. Crumble up the moon pies and put them into the large bowl as well. 2. Add the next 5 ingredients. Separate the Oreo cookies from the cream and put the cookies into a Ziploc bag. Crush the cookies until they have a crumb consistency. Pour that and the crushed Total cereal into the large bowl, along with the tofu. 3. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm mixture. 4. Spray a lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 5. Bake the meatloaves in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 40-45 minutes. Bon appetit! Well this is taking food porn to a whole new level- with cod sperm as the meat! But don't worry, your kids can have this meatloaf- as long as you never tell them what it is they're actually eating. Where on earth did I ever run into some cod sperm? An Asian supermarket, which has the most exotic things imaginable. There are plenty of articles about Westerners trying cod milt(well the politically correct, family-friendly term is cod milt but that doesn't drive as many eyeballs to this post as "sperm"), spitting it out, and saying it's disgusting. I have to admit, this is one of the weirdest meats I've ever worked with. But if you put Puritanical American prudeness(the bane of the lack of sex ed in school, but this is not the website to be discussing that sort of issue) to the side and actually try the milt, it's creamy, buttery, and delicious! Though I admit cod milt recipes are few and far between on the Internet. But I did find this one recipe that provided the inspiration for this meatloaf. Honestly, the meatloaf could still be edible without the heavy cream, cheese, and okra topping- I just didn't know what kind of meat I was working with, so I used the topping just to be safe. The topping is what makes this dish look like a faux Italian pasta dish. This meatloaf was basically a convenient excuse to use all the Asian snacks I bought at the Asian supermarket. Of all these ingredients, my favorite would have to be the Honey Twist Snacks, which taste like Honey Nut Cheerios in the shape of a French fry! My dad was too disgusted to try this meatloaf. Put the first 3 ingredients into a large bowl. Break apart the Kit Kats and mochi into small pieces and add them to the large bowl. 2. Add the next 6 ingredients to the large bowl. 3. Put the cod sperm on a large plate and massage the salt into the cod sperm until it's slimy. Then place the milt into a colander and run it under cold water to wash out any excess salt. 4. Cut the sperm into smaller pieces using kitchen shears. Run the cut up sperm under hot water until it shrinks. Place the sperm into a medium bowl and then pour the sperm into the large bowl. 5. Mix all the ingredients up until you get a firm meatloaf mixture. 6. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the meatloaf mixture into the loaf pan. 7.(optional)In a cup, mix the heavy cream and miso together. Pour the heavy cream mixture on top of the meatloaf in the loaf pan. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and shredded okra. 8. Bake the meatloaf in a 390 degree Fahrenheit oven for 20-25 minutes. Bon appetit! Left image: New York Reuben Meatloaf sandwich on rye bread. Right image: New York Reuben Meatloaf I always wondered why nobody has put a meatloaf recipe on the Internet that solely uses cold cuts as the meat in the meatloaf. But now I know why: because cold cuts are salty, and that makes for one salty meatloaf. I never said my meatloaf creations were healthy. They may not be on the same caloric level as the food in Epic Meal Time but even I wouldn't eat meatloaf every day. There's a reason why it's considered a comfort food! My YouTube channel is all about performing crazy culinary experiments by making food that hasn't been made before. I get my inspiration from "normal" recipes I find online and I adapt the recipe to my tastes. The New York Reuben Potato chips: They look like BBQ potato chips but when I tasted them, I tasted all the elements of a classic Reuben sandwich: pickles, smoked meat, Russian dressing, sauerkraut, and rye bread. Rating: 4 out of 5 meatloaves. All of the finalists in Lay's "Do Us a Flavor" contest were tasty this year but my favorite was the West Coast Truffle Fries. My least favorite was the Southern Biscuits and Gravy(it tasted like chicken stuffing). The key to this meatloaf is thick cut pastrami. If you use thin cut pastrami, the meatloaf won't hold it's shape as well. Some people make meatloaf sandwiches from leftover meatloaf and I made a meatloaf sandwich. See above for it. The bread I used was rye bread. I think my (Jewish) mom would've been very proud of me and if she were here today, she would love it(along with all my other meatloaf creations). My (Jewish) grandma loved the meatloaf as well and my dad said if he hadn't eaten so much meat in the previous week, he would've had some. And you all know by now he is a bit of a "meatloaf traditionalist". You will need: For the cooking vessels: A lasagna pan Nonstick cooking spray For the actual meatloaf: 1/2 tbsp. of onion powder 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce 1/2 cup of shredded Swiss cheese 1/2 cup of Russian dressing 2-3 tbsp. of sauerkraut 4-5 dill pickles 1/2 tbsp. of paprika 1 tsp. of caraway seeds 2 crumbled slices of rye bread 1 New York Reuben Hot Pocket 1 cup of smashed potato chips 1 pound of thick cut pastrami 1. Wash your hands! :) 2. Put the first 9 ingredients in a large bowl. 3. Crumble up the Hot Pocket with your hands and put the crumbled Hot Pocket into the large bowl. 4. Get some potato chips, put them in a Ziploc bag, and smash them up with your fist or a hammer. Repeat until you have 1 cup of smashed potato chips. 5. Tear the pastrami with your hands. Put the torn up pastrami into the large bowl. 6. Mix up all the ingredients using your hands to distribute all the ingredients evenly among the mixture. 7. Spray lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. 8. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 9. Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit preheated oven for 15-20 minutes(this is not a typo- cold cuts are already edible to begin with and if you put them into the oven for too long, the cold cuts become dry and rubbery) 10. Bon appetit! This is the first time I have made a meatloaf using ground lamb. Actually this was my first time eating any sort of lamb. I am an adventurous eater. My dad, not so much. It is the meat that takes the longest to cook- 90 minutes. Technically it varies from oven to oven but you want the internal temperature to be at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit. I told a white lie in the video. I only cooked the meatloaf for 65 minutes on the day of recording. The ends of the meatloaf were fully cooked, which is what you see in the image above. The center, however, was still pink in the middle, and pink meat of any sort means the meat is raw. If you eat raw meat, you get sick. That's why they don't make sushi with meat, I think... So I put the raw parts of the meatloaf in the refrigerator overnight. Then the next day, I put that meatloaf back in the oven for another 30 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. It was fully cooked finally! When I am working with a different type of meat for the first time, I research how to cook it online. I researched lamb meatloaf recipes and I got conflicting directions. One recipe said to bake the meatloaf at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour for 1.5 pounds of lamb. Another recipe said to bake the meatloaf at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 90 minutes for 2.5 pounds of lamb. I naively thought that the lamb would fully cook in the hour since I was only using 1 pound of it. Apparently, the cooking time doesn't vary depending on the amount of the lamb you're cooking. Although I saw an inforgraphic yesterday on how to cook turkeys(the whole ones, not ground turkey). An unstuffed 8 pound turkey takes 3 hours to cook, whereas a 24 pound turkey takes 5 hours. Seriously, don't they sell Thanksgiving turkeys that are smaller, like if you're not serving many people!? **end Public Service Announcement** But in all seriousness, this meatloaf is based on the Greektown Gyro potato chips for the Lay's Do Us a Flavor Contest. Since I have heard negative reviews about this flavor of potato chip on the Internet, I tried it off camera, in case it tasted so horrible I had to 86 them from the meatloaf. They actually tasted good. The chips had a meaty taste to them, in addition to a cucumber taste and a hint of feta. Rating: 4 out of 5 meatloaves The tomatoes and cucumbers provided plenty of moisture for the meatloaf, in addition to the tzatziki sauce. This is the second stuffed meatloaf I made. I felt like stuffing a meatloaf and to me(a non-Greek), deli roast beef looks like gyro meat, so I figure it makes sense to use it in a gyro meatloaf. I also used chicken eggs as a meatloaf binder. So, in conclusion, lambs, cows, and chickens died for this meatloaf. Now I feel like a carnivore! Here is the recipe: You will need: For the cooking vessels: A loaf pan Nonstick cooking spray For the meatloaf: 1/2 tbsp. of onion powder or 1/2 a diced, sauteed onion(I used the former, as I was too lazy that day to sautee an onion) 2 beaten and whisked eggs 1 diced tomato 1 diced cucumber 1/2 cup of feta cheese 1/2 cup of tzatziki sauce 1 tsp. of garlic powder Pinch of salt Pinch of black pepper 1 no-bake gyro pocket 1 1/2 crumbled pita pockets(I say 1 1/2 because when I put 2 pita pockets in the bowl, it would cause the large bowl to overflow, which is definitely a sign you're putting way too much stuff in your meatloaf. Plus the meatloaf would taste really heavy) 15-20 Greektown Gyro potato chips(or you could regular potato chips, since this flavor of potato chip probably won't become a regular mainstay in the chips section), or 1 cup of crumbled potato chips 1 pound of ground lamb 1/4 pound of deli roast beef 1. Wash your hands, especially since you're handling raw meat in this recipe. 2. Put first 9 ingredients in a large bowl. 3. Crumble the gyro pocket into pieces but do not put the lettuce in the bowl! Lettuce and ovens don't mix. Put the crumbled gyro in the bowl. 4. Crumble the potato chips by putting them in a sealed plastic bag. Crush them with your fist or a hammer. Put the crumbled potato chips in the bowl. 5. Add the ground lamb to the bowl. 6. Mix the ingredients together so that all of them are distributed evenly among the meatloaf mixture. 7. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. 8. Put half of the meatloaf mixture into the loaf pan. 9. Top the bottom layer with the deli roast beef. 10. Cover the deli roast beef with the remaining meatloaf mixture. 11. Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit preheated oven for 90 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches at least 160 degrees Fahrenehit. 12. Let the meatloaf rest at room temperature for 10 minutes so all the juices in the meatloaf can be absorbed in the meatloaf. 13. Make sure none of the meatloaf is pink! 14. Bon appetit! Like I said in the video, I should've had biscuits and gravy at the Cracker Barrel when I went to Florida a few years ago. I have no frame of reference for what an authentic biscuits and gravy dish is supposed to taste like. But I still have my creative liberties when it comes to my recipe development. The last time I made a meatloaf out of some sort of sausage/frankfurter, the meatloaf didn't hold it's shape very well. So this time, I cut the sausage links into half-inch wide pieces and then I crumbled them up with my hands to make it look like ground meat even though we all know it's just meat with preservatives in it. The taste test for Lay's Southern Biscuits and Gravy potato chips: When I first smelled the potato chips, I had no idea what it smelled like. When I tried a potato chip, first I tasted butter(which is sort of accurate considering lots of people put butter on their biscuits), then it tasted like frankfurters, which typically don't belong in biscuits and gravy. I guess Lay's was going for a sausage taste. Last time I checked, frankfurters weren't authentic sausages. The aftertaste reminded me of chicken stuffing, like the type you eat at Thanksgiving. Neither stuffing nor Thanksgiving has anything to do with biscuits and gravy. However, the potato chips tasted good. I'll probably finish the bag too. Hence, I give it a 3.5 out of 5 meatloafs. I used the chips in my meatloaf and it tasted good. However, the chicken apple sausages plus the actual biscuits in the meatloaf reminded me of apple pie! You will need: For the cooking tools: A lasagna pan Nonstick cooking spray For the actual meatloaf: 2/3 cups of unsweetened applesauce 1/2 cup of sausage gravy of your choice(I used Pumpkin Spice Gravy) 2 crumbled up biscuits 1 Biscuits & Gravy hot pocket Pinch of salt Pinch of black pepper 3/4 cups of smashed Lay's Southern Biscuits & Gravy potato chips 12 ounces of chicken sausage(about 4 links; I used 2 chicken apple sausage links and 2 pumpkin spice chicken sausage links) 1. Wash your hands! :) 2. Put the first 3 ingredients in a large bowl. 3. Crumble the hot pocket into smaller pieces. 4. Add the salt and black pepper 5. Smash the potato chips by putting them in a plastic bag, sealing the bag, and smashing them into smaller pieces using your fist or a hammer. 6. Put the smashed potato chips in the bowl. 7. Cut all the sausage links into half-inch wide pieces. 8. Crumble those pieces using your hands to get a consistency like that of ground beef. 9. Put the crumbled sausage links in the bowl. 10. Mix all the ingredients together. 11. Spray a lasagna pan with nonstick cooking spray. 12. Form 2 loaves from the meatloaf mixture. 13. Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 30-35 minutes. 14.
